Seat Advice

Merry Christmas all,
I bought a brand new 09 fz6 in oct and loving it. Its so much fun riding and I've put on about 1k miles on her sor far. One complaint though is when riding more than a hour my butt gets numb and soar. I've heard people recommend a gel or corbin seat. Which one would you recommend or are there other alternatives out there?

Ron,

There are a number of alternatives, and they can run to some serious money. On another board I frequent, a member bought a Corbin and a Top Saddlrie at the same time..... he ended up deciding on keeping the Corbin, rather than the French seat. Sargent, TS, Corbin, all offer seats that will replace the OEM unit.

Yamaha sells the 'comfort' gell seat, another drop on replacement.....

The less expensive route is to take your seat to an upholstery shop, and have them replace your OEM foam with better quality material. If you have access to a custom seat shop, they'll do the same thing, except they will understand what is needed to make the seat work best on your motorcycle with your posterior on it.

Cheaper yet..... but the foam yourself, and use a bread knife to carve it to the shape you want. (take the OEM cover off the seat pan, and shape the new foam to the seat, then staple the OEM cover back on the seat, after you are happy.)

I realize this is an old thread, but an inexpensive alternative to a new seat would be the Airhawk seat cushion. I have one on my '06 FZ6 and I can go 200 miles between fill-ups without stopping to rest my butt. I have done 500+ mile days and still been able to walk the next day.

Corbin Seat

I have a corbin seat and it feels alittle harder/ not as much padding. But it looks good.
