It's recommended to replace chain when replacing sprockets and to keep both sprockets and the chain on the same timeline so that you don't end up with uneven wear, etc. My bike has a 15t front sprocket, and it makes it more fun for street riding, faster off the line kind of deal, but will lower your top end... which you can't use on normal streets anyway, right? Going down 1t in the front is roughly equivalent to going up 2t in the back. I've seen often enough to do both at the same time, and I think I will try bumping my rear 2t on my next sprocket change. Again, faster off the line, power is more readily available, but will top out sooner. Also, will be louder and work harder (higher rpm) at steady speeds, so for instance will have to maintain higher RPM on hwy speeds if you do a lot of hwy riding, but -1, +2 shouldn't be enough of a change to excessively tax the engine for normal hwy riding. |

| IndianBikes | A inventory 1k will not top 180, more like 172. But yea a1k would be simpler n more cost-effective to mod to got quicker than that. Tho anyone that goes anywhere near that quick on community streets has a deathwish n no regard for their liked ones |

Just so we're clear, the engine won't make any more power regardless of what you do to the final drive gearing. You will simply change the RPM it takes to go a given speed. Dropping a tooth at the front, and adding two at the back is said to alter the RPM higher by around 14%. That would mean that where you were riding around at 5000 RPM would now take ~5525 RPM to go the same speed. This becomes desireable, when you make the 'step' in power, around 7K. If you can get to the 'bump' more easily, you can do the hooligan stuff a bit more easily. |

| suzane | Yes, you need chain along with sprocket because you have mentioned here a particular sprocket of 15teeth. |

sprocket change Has anyone done a sprocket change on their fz6......I have ordered a one down or 15teeth for the front and will install when it arrives...will I need to go up in the rear sprocket to notice a diff....also was wondering if I will have to get a new chain...... |
