2004 FZ6 engine problems after a while.

Hello gurus.

For two seasons this FZ6 has acted up on our tours. After 45 min to several hours there is power loss and no idle. You have to rev like a maniac to keep it from stalling. Exhaust turns blackish and smelly.
No error codes except once (33) but changing coil for 1&4 did nothing.
After 10 min. rest it goes away but may reappear (or not) at any time during a days ride.

Could this be the TPS recall problem? It must be a sensor right? I think a misfiring cylinder would cause vibration, and I feel absolutely no new vibration. It's just not running unless I turn the throttle a lot. Guessing some air, temp or the TPS sensor. Anyone got info on this?

BR.

OMG. I am so stupid!

I'm not a native English speaker, and the word "Throttle" has two translations to Swedish in this context. I assumed the "Throttle Position Sensor" was sensing the position of the Throttle Grip. Everybody knows that giving "Full Throttle" means turning the grip all the way, right?

Therefore I reasoned that this can't be the problem because that would only give another rpm. A false reading there cannot affect the mixture. But of course it's not. This refers to the original meaning of the word Throttle=the thing that restricts the air flow to the cylinder. and of course a false reading there will make the ECU send in the wrong amount of fuel! That's exactly the issue here.

I will have the TPS sensor replaced ASAP and I am confident it will solve the problem.

Thanks for listening

No problem!

I'm glad this has been sorted out.
Let us know if there is anything else we can help with!

Enjoy your weekend!

Richard.
