FZ6R on the Track? Drag a knee?

I currently have a 1981 XJ750 Seca which I had for 3 years (first bike) and was thinking of getting the new FZ6R. I like an upright riding position and wanted a bike mainly for street use but that I could also take to the track. I know the FZ6R will not have the same capability on the track as a R6, but a salesman tried to tell me to not even take the FZ6R to the track. He did not think the bike would do well and said you would not be able to drag a knee.

This seems odd since Yamaha uses FZ6R's in some of there sponsered track events.

Has anyone taken a FZ6R to the track? How did it do?

I have never ridden a bike on a track before and was hoping this bike would meet my needs of a comfortable touring bike that was still able to do beginner to intermediate track days. I rode the FZ6R & FZ1 on the street and liked them both, but wanted to go with the 600.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Update

I bought the FZ6R and just wanted to say it is possible to get a knee down on a FZ6R and not scrape the pegs.

On my first track day with the bike, I was scrapping my boot in the turns. There was a photographer at the track day and looking at the picture I could see how my position was wrong.

At my second track day (free track day from NESBA with the purchase of my bike) I focused on position and kept my foot well on top of the peg, and my body low and increased my lean angle. During the last lap of the day I got my knee down.

hi everyone,
I know that this discussion is old AF, but I just wonder if anyone was able to compare lean angles of FZ6 and FZ6R? Thinking about selling my 2006 FZ6 and buying something new like a sport tourer but not adventure or supersport bike and it seems that there's nothing descent on the market besides Ninja 650 and FZ6R. Ninja is boring and cheap in many ways so I kinda lean towards the FZ6R. My dream bike of this type was Thundercat but it's long gone.

Hey Doctor T,

I still have my FZ6R. I do not know if there is a difference in lean angle between FZ6 & FZ6R. I have never had an issue with the peg feelers hitting the ground on public roads. However, at the track they hit often and are well worn on my bike. If you plan to use the bike on public roads, lean angle should not be a problem. If you take the FZ6R to the track, you have to hang off the bike further than normal to keep the peg feelers from hitting the ground.
