Hi, my names Danny I ride an 06 shift red (the fastest color) FZ6.
I live in Southern Ca. I'm 33 years old and have been riding for over 20 years between the dirt and street. I've owned a lot of bikes over the years between cruisers and full on sportbikes to dirtbikes and enduros. I don't own any Aprilias although I do like the tuna :D, my dream bike changes to much to name for sure right now the new Buell 1125R is in the spotlight for me, my favorite ride is probably Palomar Mt.
well thats all I can think of right now so I'll talk to everyone later!!!:)

I've been riding for 2 years. My first bike was a 2004 Susuki Savage and I put 1000 miles on it and moved up to a 2004 Yamaha 650 Silverado. After putting 20,000 miles on it I'm ready to move on to a 2007 FZ6. I should have my new bike in my garage before the next weekend. I need for them to find a lowering kit for my bike since I'm only 5'2". I'm looking forward to getting this bike and getting out and riding it.

[QUOTE=administrator;3]Please take a minute to introduce yourself. We'd love to know:

Just joined today (7/30/08)....I'm Vaughn from central Maine. I'm 56 and have been riding for 35 years...dirtbikes and street. Currently own a Red '07 FZ6 and a '82 XL 500 Honda I bought new. My last street bike was a '85 Honda 700 Nighthawk "S" - Red/Black. I had it for 17 years (yes I did like the bike). Bought it for $1,900 in '91 and sold if for $1,700 in June of 08. I looked at a '04 FZ6 (silver) that had been wrecked and fixed??? which I could have purchased for $4,000 with 12,000 miles. I passed. The steering head bearings just didn't move, they made noise. Also, lots of battle scars. No Thanks!!

I got my '07 FZ in June through an estate since the owner had passed away and the "Lawyers" were selling it for the family. It had 2,600 miles and I got it for - Sweet - $4,000. I couldn't pass that up. I have added bar risers/bar backs (hey, I'm 56) which helps for a more upright ride and the family jewels spend less time getting intimate with the tank - I sit on the seat vs. 1/2 seat; 1/2 tank. I have also added a red wheel pinstripe kit to help break up all the black. I don't own an Aprilia or have any desire to up here in Maine. My FZ is perfect for me but an oval piston NR Honda would be something I could dream about. There's not much traffic up here so riding is somewhat safe....deer and moose....that's a different issue.

Stay well all

Vaughn

Hi I'm Roald and am a bikeaholic :D
I'm an old fart and live in Frisco, Texas.
I've had a lot of bikes but right now only the FZ6.
Nice bike, but man what a clunky tranmission.

Yea I noticed the clunky transmission my first ride out on it. On my way back home it seemed like I would not shift back down to neutral or even first unless you let the clutch out but that just stalls the bike. Is there a trip to it when it gets clunky like that????

I found that slightly pressing on the shift lever prior to pulling the clutch get it to slip into the next gear pretty well. First to second always clunks shifting up or down.
It's a nice bike though I like that it can be ridden nice and sedately .... or whack the snot out of it, it seems to enjoy both :D

I noticed the clucky shifting on mine also. My Honda would shift smooth and in one motion. Sometimes, it seems the FZ shifts through "2" notches; like the lever moves; you can feel a slight stopping of motion and then a full shift. I shift without the clutch (from my dirt bike days) and it seems to shift smooth and in "1" motion. Sounds like you have an automatic transmission - nice and smooth. Roll off the gas and shift up. Sounds kind of like your "slight pressing" on the shift lever as mentioned above.

Pulling in the clutch and trying to take it to neutral from higher gears doesn't seem to work smooth; like you should let the clutch out on each downshift vs. holding in the clutch and trying to get to neutral.

I've rambled on long enough.

Hello everyone! I am Dan. I am semi-retired college teacher near Charlotte, NC. I traded down from an Aprilia Tuono to my FZ6 and I think it was really a trade up! I have only had my bike a day now... and I have fallen in love with it already. I think it is going to be a KEEPER! I am not one to be shy about trading any bike, new or not. I also have a BMW R 1200 C and a Honda VFR. Yea, I guess I like my toys... want to talk about cars or boats? LOL I look forward to learning so much from all of you. I know this is going to be a forum that I will enjoy. Keep the dirty side down!

Hi Everyone!

I just bought my Yamaha FZ6 last week. The day I finished my British Columbia Safety Council Motorcycle Traffic course. I bought it Wednesday and they had to deliver it to me the next day because if was pouring rain. I couldn't ride it until Saturday afternoon. I love this bike! I went for a 2nd ride today to Steveston along farm land. This is what i have been dreaming about for many years. I am new to riding and this forum is a great source of information and advice. I hope to contribute as I gain experience and learn and share with all of you.

Yes I am also new here.
I bought a 1988 FZ6 from some dude a couple months ago. I am 25 and always wanted to ride. I live right outside Philadelphia and I am brand new to the whole motorcycle scene. The bike only has about 14,000 miles on it so I am hoping that it will last me at least a couple more summers. Amazingly the bike has no rust on it and it rides pretty good.
I will post up some pics of it in a couple days.

Hi everybody, I am a new rider as well, completed the rider safety program here in Oregon, highly rocommend it. Bought the FZ6 before taking the course. It was a bike with only 600 miles on it,so it feels brand new to me.

Riding the FZ6 is a challenge as a new rider,it is my first bike and I find there is a lot to learn. Very fun to ride, although can be tricky on a windy day,I've had to learn how to ride with some strong cross winds blowing me around, but I manage. This bike is light so it requires your focus all the time.

Glad to be part of the forum, you have a great site here. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. Learning to ride is a slowly acquired skill. May I suggest you take one of the Safety Classes. I have been riding now for over .... 40 years... and the Safety Class made me a better rider. Always ride in your ability.... slowly you will become more skillful. Enjoy but don't be foolish.

Mak,how long have you been riding? I have only put 500 miles on the bike this summer, mostly riding out in the country, farm land, etc.

I would like to know how to set this bike up for me. I don't know anything about how to go about that. The bike is exactly the way it was when I took possession of it,all in all I have no complaints but I would like to know more about these bikes too.

Hey all, I'm Scott - just dropping in, might stay awhile. I usually post on the motorcycle.com forums.

I've an '04 FZ6, minimal mods (primarily "functional" like frame savers, trunk, wiring for 'lectrics, etc.). I live in Southwest MO.

I've put over 50,000 miles on my FZ6, it's been all-over the Southeast; NC, AL, MS, GA, FL, AR, KY, OK, MO, KS, IA, WI, CO, from Denver to Oklahoma City to Suches to Daytona, Key West, etc.

I also use it as my "usual" daily commuter - I ride pretty-much year 'round (ice and snow permitting).

The FZ isn't my first bike (or only bike, for that matter) - but it was my first NEW bike, and I think I got a pretty good deal when I bought it in early Feb of '04. I did some checking; I believe I had the first FZ6 in the Central Midwest (but not the first in the US, of course).

I haven't put as many miles on it this year as I have in the previous three: I've been "paying attention" to other bikes in my stable, but it still remains a favourite ride.

Hi, everyone. New to this forum but not to other FZ6 forums. Just found this one.

Name's Allan, been riding/racing for about 30 years, which means simply that I've learned how to scare the bejesus out of myself far better than others. Not much racing anymore except in my own mind.

My age? Numbers don't count, as long as my kids keep accusing me of acting 16. Works for me.

Bikes? Have owned/ridden a number of the years, these days I'm perfectly happy with my '04 Liquid Silver FZ6 (we don't tell people, but it really is the fastest one). I keep modding it on a budget, nothing major, but I like it. Check my profile picture.

My dream bike? The one I don't have!!

I'll hang around here a bit, share my vast and truly imperfect wisdom here and there, and probably tick somebody off. Sorry.

Thanks for having me!

Hello all,

I'm Ryan. I'm from the San Francisco bay area.

I'm a club racer and i ride mostly GSXRs but i inherited a non-running fz6 and i have started parting it out. There isn't much demand for these parts on the forums i frequent so I joined fz6forums because I figured maybe some people her could use them.

i know i am new here but i have an excellent reputation on a bunch of different forums as well as a 100% ebay rating. if anyone needs parts in excellent shape at a reasonable price with no bs, i am happy to oblige.

happy trails!

I'm 27, don't own a bike and don't even have a license.

I'm looking for a little advice on whether I should buy a FZ6 as my first bike. I want to get something used and cheap and relatively easy to learn so if I break something it won't be a big cost.

There is a 2004 FZ6 on sale on ebay with 24,000 miles and i wonder if it's a good deal?

any advice?

sethnelson1

The FZ6 is a wolf in sheep's clothing. I recommend buying something with a little more torque and less rpms. There are a lot of bikes to choose from, but for you, start small and work your way up. You could start with a used On-Off road bike like a Suzuki DR400 or a street bike like a Kawasaki Ninja 500. I wouldn't mess with an FZ6 if you are learning how to ride on the street. Don't over-do yourself with a GSXr or CBR or R6. People may tease you because you are not rocking the badest bike with the most displacement. It’s OK though because in the end, when you go down, you will have invested way less money in your bike and possibly saved a few broken bones. I recommend reading "Proficient Motorcycling" by David Hough before you get on a bike. Also, take some MSF courses, they are worth every penny.

I am a new member as well. I have a thread in the random section about winter Olympics if you want to stop thinking about motorcycles for a bit. Now that I am back on subject though feel free to check out my site which i use to map out rides I am going to do or ones I have already done so I can show them off to friends around the world. Check it out at, allstate insurance route map (http://allstategarage.com/routes), or allstate insurance motorcycle (http://allstategarage.com). I am an affiliate of allstate and thus the title of the site, feel free to post your own.

Hi everyone my name is Jeremy I am currently deployed to Afghanistan but will be returning home to Ventura, California within the next 30 days. I am currently 28 but will be 29 this month. My current bike is a 2009 FZ6R raven black. My wife just bought it for me and it is now waiting in my garage just begging to be riden. My first bike was a 2005 blue FZ6. It was stolen and returned in bad shape and eventually totaled. I haven't riden since then in 2006 plus my son was born soon after. I have been anticipating riding once again ever since. I don't really have a dream bike, I just want to ride.

Hi all,
My name is Gary Evans. I ride an '06 FZ6 which I bought in August last year. So far I have added a little over 11,000 miles to the clock for a total of just over 16,000. I made a trip last year from here in East TN to my brother's in Omaha and am headed back up there at the end of this month (August.)

This is absolutely the best motorcycle I've ever had. I guess I should mention that I've been riding motorcycles for the better part of 47 years. I LOVE fuel injection.

name....Patrick

Location...Northern Kentucky

experience....since 1974...lotta years and miles

bikes owned....almost 2 many to remember

current other bikes....2000 ZRX
1986 Kawasaki Concours

Just bought a 2007 red FZ6 w/10,000 miles. All set up with lots of mods for sport touring. It's by far my newest bike and has by far the least mileage. I'm hoping it works out as well as the others I own and if it does I'll keep it many years as well.
Planning on going into semi-retirement in a few months and hoepfully spend more time riding than I have the last few years. Hope to meet some other members.

Hello everyone,

I am Kal Jani from VA Beach here. This is my first bike FZ6. I am very excited!!!! I have drove motorcycle about 17 years in past when I was young but this is first time I will be driving in USA. I got FZ6 for almost week now, bought it from craiglist for 4k (2008/900 miles). Very sharp and comfortable bike! I love it so far...only complaint I have is I am only 5'6" and tip toeing the bike when I stop at traffic light so planning to get it lower few inches. Beside that I love it!!!!!! :)

Thanks

This will be my first bike. I sealed the deal this afternoon and I will be taking delivery on Tuesday. I look forward to riding and getting myself into the bike "scene". My dad has been riding HD's since before I was born and I was destined to grab a bike and join him. I've dabbled in the VW community and I own a '04 VW R32.

I'm looking forward to learning and enjoying every minute of it!

glad u found us ! I have one of these bikes, and am also learning more about it daily. Mine is a FZ6R, which has some minor differences in suspension/tuning/appearance, but I have yet to compare it side by side to a FZ6 model. I have been told the FZ6 is lil bit "hotter" ride, but can't ride mine yet,due to a bent front wheel. I need to find someone to straighten mine, or find a good replacement. I'm on east coast US,in mid Atlantic. If you,or anyone else knows of a someone to straighten it, or where I might find a straight used wheel, please send me a pm ! It's May, my bike has 29 miles on it, and I can't do anything with it! thnx

Hello, I'm Spen and I run a classic motorcycle race team. My wife found a lovely old FZ600 and as a surprise bought it for me to tinker with. It's a little beauty.

hey Spen, that's a good pic of a great bike ! I run some RD350/400s in WERA Vintage, and also have 3 FZ600s, one of which will be raced this season. Vintage racing,is such a great way to get into roadracing! I wish there was a way to get more folks out to the tracks , but the economy is likely the biggest obstacle these days. Glad to have u on the site. Let's see some pics of wifey's FZ600, as soon as its ready to play ! Some more details/history on that 2 stroke would be great too ! That is sure is purty !

thanx !

Hey All,

I'm Mike, 26 from Michigan and I've been riding for about a decade now. Yes it sucks owning a motorcycle here 9 months out of the year.

I just bought an FZ6 and I won't be able to ride it for 3-4 months. I went looking for a forum to read and get my fix and after sampling some top posts, this one seemed like the best.

Bikes I've had previously: 1994 Suzuki GS 400, 1971 Honda CL175, 1972 Honda CL 350, 1982 Suzuki GS 550 and last year a 2005 Ninja 250r track bike for stock class and illegal street racing in Detroit on Belle Isle.

If you aren't from the area and don't know Belle Isle, it's a large island in the Detroit river between downtown Detroit and Windsor Canada with a formal race track around half the island and perfect roads around the rest. It's very popular for all kinds of organized racing events as well as midnight racing. "Illegal" racing events are completely tolerated by the cops who often stop by to watch. They've even stopped by our BBQ pit before. Detroit really is the BEST city to live if you march to a different beat.

I probably won't be posting much, because I can't even ride my FZ6 yet. I look forward to the riding season as well as reading here.

FZ6ers:

I am a FZ1 owner and a member of the FZ1 communities. I am not a major poster but have done some mods on my bike and wanted to join here to see if there is any common interest in parts swaps or common tuning.

Look forward to learning about FZ6, its riders and its mechanicals.

Fazer1000, they're both Yamahas , and we know that means performance, and RACING. This is not ONLY a "FZ6" site, but all things "Yamaha" ... and RACING ! A FZ1 is kinda like a naked R1, like a FZ6 is a naked R6... with comfortable , real world characteristics for everyday use... Welcome to the forum ! Where in NC are you located ? I have kin near Henderson, north of Raleigh...

Thanks Compmoto. I am in the Raleigh area and actually went up to a place in Henderson a few years ago and looked at a FZ6 before I bought my SV650; kinda funny how things come full circle.
