I don't like the angle the stock bars put my wrist at.
it causes especially my throttle wrist to ache after only about 30 minutes of riding.
have any of you swapped out bars, if so what did you get and why?
Thanks in advance,
Roald.

I had the same problem.....I bought a set of bar risers/bar backs from Twisted Throttle that set the bars up about an inch and back about an inch. What a difference!! If you read my introduction (MaineFZ) you can get the idea.

They weren't cheap....$117 delivered. They are German made and made well. I think a set of bars would be cheaper but you would have to remove all controlls etc...just time that's all.

One note....google FZ6 risers you will see (keep looking) where a guy added this same kit to his '07 FZ6 and it shows that he was able to salvage the use of that nice one piece top bar clamp. He was using the 132 kit (last numbers of the part number) and that has been replace with the 139 kit. THE ONE PIECE BAR CLAMP WILL NOT BOLT UP! You have to use the ones proviced. I was bummed because I like the stock set up but it made such a difference.

Thanks for the info Vaughn, much appreciated.
I did the same thing to my XR650R I liked the higher bars, it made
standing so much easier.
I'll go out there and look at the risers, thanks again.
Roald.

I also installed the up and back risers. It was the best addition I have ever made to my bike. There is no pressure at all on my hands and wrists.. what a joy to ride now. I don't feel any loss of control either.

Glad it worked out for you....one note: I don't know if you take the battery out of your bike in the winter months but if you do, I believe you have to REMOVE you bars since the set up you have now sets the bars back and the tank will not lift without hitting the bars. I read that somewhere....rather be safe than sorry/dented tank.

You can also adjust the bars to change the hand/wrist angle. Pretty simple to do.

Has anybody noted problems like this on the older FZ's? Did Yamaha ever change handlebars between the first gens and now?

I think change the bars once and it is very simple to do... The information provided was useful one...

I also set up the up and again risers. It was the best inclusion I have ever created to my motorcycle. There is no stress at all on my arms.. what a joy to trip now. I don't experience any losing management either.

Hey, I'm glad it worked out for you. It's hard to imagine that 1 inch up and 1 inch back will make the riding so much better. Just remember, when you have to remove the battery (tank comes up), you have to remove all of the risers since the tank won't clear the bars. No big deal - just takes time. I always put an old jacket or towel over the tank in case I drop something or do something stupid and scratch/dent the tank. That would piss me off.

Where are you from anyway?

Stay safe and stay well,

Vaugh @ MaineFZ
